Quality Videos
Posted in Real Estate Marketing 2.0 By William Metzker, Friday, September 19, 2008.I've just begun using videos and can't figure out how to get decent quality video and sound. I use a mini DV camcorder, because the CNET forums concurred they were best for undergoing compression (I don't know what compression is as it relates to video). The software is Pinnacle Studio 12. The only one I've uploaded to Vimeo makes me look like Gumby, kind of elongated, and some of the video itself looks like cable news when the weather gets bad.

The camera you use will have some of the least impact on your video quality for web distribution. Your use of compression technology and lighting while shooting will matter more.
Can you provide us a link to what you uploaded? It will help a great deal in giving you some pointers.
There are a lot of video pros on this list and hopefully one of them will join in and give you a hand. If not, I'm fairly good with the tech myself and might have a few suggestions.

I've uploaded several times to vimeo, the most recent at http://vimeo.com/1780451. It's in 3g and is the worst yet.

What's 3g? That's a mobile format I believe - you should be uploading an .mp4, .mov, .avi... .wvm...
You also should be aware that Vimeo does not allow real estate videos or commercial videos of any kind. They will delete your account and all your videos.... and THEN tell you.

Thanks for that. Curious, since Vimeo was recommended at the S.F. conference.

It was, but incorrectly. Actually, they banished my stuff the week before I went to SF!

My guess is that you are dealing with a compression/file-type issue.
I'm not familiar with the software you are using, but in what format are you exporting the video?
Fred is on the money with Vimeo. Personally, I am a fan of Blip.tv and their paid premium membership. If you are looking for free options, Wellcomemat.com is designed specifically for real estate.

I'm using Pinnacle Studio 12. I've exported in .avi, one I don't remember and 3g.
